I know this looks like a medieval castle, but it's actually a recently built home in an average American neighborhood. I went hunting for puddle reflections during a rainstorm and knew I hit the jackpot with this one. The turret of the castle reflected perfectly. I went back and forth on whether to flip the image or not and finally decided to leave it the way I captured it. You can see the ripples from the raindrops and even the pebbles in the pavement of the street shining through.
Fabulous? I would love to see the rest of the house - have not seen anything turreted around here.
Wonderful capture Lisa - the reflection and raindrop ripples are prefect. How do you keep your camera dry? I was shooting while trying to hold onto an umbrella today. Difficult.
@jankoos Thank you, Jan! About keeping the camera dry, I had a small towel with me that I held over the camera. It seemed to work. The rain was fairly light though. I don't know if it would be wise in a downpour!
@kevinmckay Thanks Kevin! My description wasn't exactly accurate. The neighborhood isn't "average" - it's pretty high end. What I meant though that the style of the homes is normal - not medieval. The castle is very much out of time and place!
Another thoughtful and creative shot Lisa, with pretty colours and interesting textures. I was quite worried about taking my camera out while it was snowing the other week, but hoped for the best as I really wanted the shots. A towel is a good idea - I'll remember that in future.
Love this one - like an upside down watery kingdom!! Great detail in the stones shining through the puddle and I also love the raindrops ripples around the outside.
You certainly did hit the jackpot! I love everything about this, the textures, colours, reflection and the shape of the 'castle'. It's definitely a fav.
I think you made the right choice to leave the reflection as you saw it rather than turning it around. It has more visual interest this way. Plus it leaves a person's perception of the shot up to the imagination. Without your telling us, we might have imagined it to be something built on the moors of Scotland, or housing the crown jewels in London. Knowing the background is fun too- because most people do not build a home in this style anymore, so you can imagine it sticking out like a sore thumb in that upscale neighborhood! Nice shot!
