We went to Nottingham last night to see the stage production of Hairspray at the Nottingham Theatre Royal
The production starred Michael Starke and Micky Dolenz (hey hey he's a Monkee - just in case you don't recognise his name)
Two very talented young actresses LAURIE SCARTH and EMMA DUKES played Tracy Turnblad and Penny Pingleton respectively.
This image is taken a couple of hours before the show started, when there was still some light in the city centre. I tried to capture the beauty of the old theatre and thought it looked better in black and white as it conveyed a sort of timeless picture.
It's the last night of the show tonight so the eagle eyed among you will notice adverts at the top of the theatre for a forthcoming production of Avenue Q.
To get the theatre full in the frame I had to stand across the road, so I had to click the camera between traffic light stops and starts to avoid passing cars getting in the frame.
Anyway it was a great show - "You can't stop the beat" !
This is not a top picture by any means but I like it :).
If anyone is viewing this image in America and in the city of Baltimare and it's before midday then "Good Moring Baltimore"
I wish I could have seen that..I was a big fan of Micky Dolenz...loved the Monkees! The photo is great in B&W and I really like the way you can feel the motion of the people walking by.
@patsyjphillips Thanks Patsy, glad the image met with your approval, Micky Dolenz is back in Nottingham soon because the Monkees are are doing a UK tour and are playing at the concert hall which is just behind this theatre
This is a very handsome building, and I agree, it has great gravitas in B&W. The long-legged individual hurrying by is a nice contrast to the massive columns of the theatre.
I can just picture the excitement of entering the theatre as the lights go down for the show. Glad you had fun.
@allie912 Allison, thank you for taking time to comment and it is a handsome building. It gets some great shows too, many of them doing UK tours from the West End (the West End is the London equivalent of your Broadway)
Phil, not so keen on this one for some reason, but the 2 walkers make it interesting enough for me..
Congratulations on a mighty win and a Wembley visit I'm sure you'll want to attend.
@sleepdozer57 Peter, no problem, we can't always post pictures that please everyone, thanks for commenting. I took a picture later in the evening of the theatre all lit up, it looked good, but there was a bit too much noise.
As for Wembley, I've got a season ticket so I am guaranteed a seat, although a Bolton v Stoke semi final is not a glamour tie that the public crave for !!
@gill Gill, thanks for your comments and support. The building sits in an area of Nottingham which is now quite modern...the tram passes by and there is a new build of cinemas, restaurants and clubs just around the corner, but as you say the building does still retain it's 'timeless feel'.
As for the Monkees, who was your favourite Monkee :) ?
Hey, hey, that's pretty cool! This theatre (yes, my spell-check just underlined that) building is beautiful! I've not seen Hairspray on stage, just with John Travolta in the movie! My daughter's friend performed "Good Morning, Baltimore" at their school variety show last week - too funny! I love the b&w image - and the crisp reflections in the windows. Nice!
@meredithwb Meredith, thank you for your comments and I'm impressed by your spelling of theatre !! You will have to go and see the stage production, it's very uplifiting. Glad you like the B/W conversion and I did not notice the reflections !!
