Victoria Centre Pedestrian Crossing - Waiting for the 'Green Man' by phil_howcroft

Victoria Centre Pedestrian Crossing - Waiting for the 'Green Man'

This is probably the busiest pedestrian crossing in Nottingham.

It is shot outside the 'Victoria Centre' and leads to the main shopping street.....Clumber Street.

This is shot from the opposite side of the road as pedestrians wait for the 'red man' to become a 'green man' and cross the road !!

SOOC other than a letterbox crop.

I thought about a B/W, but then decided the colours were quite vibrant to go down the B/W route !

Behind in posting again !!

Will catch up with commenting over the long bank holiday weekend !
great shot Phil - got that waiting feel to it! It seems everyone is behind with posting commenting etc - life it just too busy!! Have a great weekend - let's pray for some sun!

Great shot Phil. I don't think it would work as well in B&W.

Love the color in this shot and what with those two who did not wait for the green man?

Great shot I love the two jay walkers striding purposefully along! You are so clever at turning the seemingly mundane into art - excellent work! :-)

Another great street shot Phil & much better in colour I think. You can pick out the individual people better ! It's surprising if you are busy how soon you can get behind with posting but especially comments !!

Great street shot. It looks like everybody is waiting for different things, they are all looking in different directions... I wonder if I would have thought they were at a crossing if you hadn't have told us?

Everyone looking cheeful again! Don't know if its still true but Clumber St was the busiest shopping street in Europe! I think anyone who has tried to get down there at Christmas could understand the boast!

Wow, that sure is a busy crossing! Lots to look at in your shot. Really nice street candid, Phil

Is your bank holiday in celebration or commemoration of anything like the U.S. Memorial Day week end? I do like the energy of this shot. The color is a definite enhancement.

@allie912 Thanks Allison, our bank holiday is now known as 'spring bank holiday', but used to be known as 'whit monday'...see below...

@whippeteer Frances, It's good that we can do a long narrative on here as I think my narrative make the images better than they actually are :)...thank you for your kind comments :)

@happypat thank you Pat, the colour brightens the street scene :)

@tashy ha ha Tashy I cropped the traffic lights / red man out of the image :), you can just see the 'yellow pad' for pushing buttons (left hand side)

They used to get the police to manage the crossings in Manchester to give the cars a chance! I like all the colours. I'm up your way on Friday as my daughter bought tickets for the Twenty20 at Trent Bridge without thinking how she was going to get there....sigh...an evening match too so I'll be needing to take up caffeine-drinking again.

@judithg Ha Ha, enjoy Trent Bridge, I'm sure you will get some good images, remember to bump up the ISO settings once the floodlights come on !! A pre match walk along the River Trent Embankment is worthwhile for a few photo opportunities....Enjoy :)
