Walking into the Reebok Stadium

New Years Eve Football at the Reebok Stadium

A wet and windy afternoon in Bolton.

This is shot from the inside the stadium concourse at half time as a fan walks up the steps and back to his seat. Shot contre jour ....or contre floodlights !!!.....the man looks a bit like a rock star entering the stadium stage for a concert.......there were no stars on the pitch though...just a load of over paid useless players who are destined for relegation from the premier league !

I converted it to B/W as I felt it made the image more atmospheric...not that there was much atmosphere in the stadium as both Wanderers huffed and puffed to a 1-1 draw.

Both Wanderers? Yes both Wanderers.......

Bolton Wanderers 1 Wolverhampton Wanderers 1

I expect both teams will be relegated at the end of the season !
cool

Viewed on black (a must!!) and without any explanation about this photo - it has as others suggested, a gritty feeling. It's got a sense of anticipation captured so well ... love this!!!

I faved some photos of yours the other night!!!! ;)

Oh Dear Phil... do I sense you're a bit disgruntled? - Great shot, mind you!
January 1st, 2012
There's a great atmosphere to this shot. I do love your huffing over football!
January 2nd, 2012
..well mate! well deserved PP

I like your analogy to the rock star. The shot is certainly reminiscent of those big concerts. Your analysis of the game and the teams was quite amusing. I didn't realize teams could lose their status by poor play. That should be a good incentive to do better. In the US, team owners would never allow it. They have much too much money invested in their team no matter how badly they play!
January 2nd, 2012
Congrats on the popular page!
January 2nd, 2012
yes this really reminds me of a rockstar going on stage! awesome shot!
January 2nd, 2012
@steveh thanks Steve, no turning things round I'm afraid, we are so bad , we are down !
January 2nd, 2012
@laurentye thank you lauren :)
January 2nd, 2012
@kerristephens thnx kerri, i did not realise it made the PP

@allie912 allison, there are 20 teams in the premiere league, they all play each other twice (38 games)......you get 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and no points for a loss....at the end of the season the team with the most points are crowned champions, the bottom 3 teams are relegated and the top three teams from the league below are promoted.

The whole of English football is based on a league structure.... so in theory, even the smallest of teams can progress up the hierarchy of leagues.......Bolton are a relatively small town team, who have been 'punching above their weight' for the past 11 years !

Thanks for your support
January 2nd, 2012
@swilde Sue, lol, lol, I think 'huffing ' is all part of the 'enjoyment' of being a footie fan....note 'enjoyment' is in quotes, because it cannot currently be described as 'enjoyment' !
January 2nd, 2012
Fav for me even if there was wandering around the pitch this is a powerful shot!
January 2nd, 2012
like this, rather...errie, makes me wonder the view at the top of the steps.
January 3rd, 2012
@judithg thanks judith , i've gone a bit contre jour / black and white over the New Year weekend....but they do make for striking images if you get them right :)
