These are the park gates to Arnot Hill Park in Arnold, Nottingham
It's quite an impressive back entrance to the park (the main entrance is at the other end of the park).
I'm pleased I got a couple of people walking along the path at the other side of the gates. The light is quite good as the low winter sun (which only appeared for a two or three hours today) lights up the wall.
I had whippet and lead in one hand and my camera in the other hand, so I had to make use of the 'straighten tool' in Photoshop Elements to help make the scene level !!
I like the lamp on the right hand side of the frame. I did a picture of these gates last winter in the snow, which was quite nice too.
Wonderful impressive gates & makes it interesting seeing people walking towards them. Holding hands too !!!! Been a good day for a walk today ! I am on a walk of 5 miles tomorrow hopefully so I am hopeful of some nice shots.
What I really like is the moss the light brought out in the wall and the trees! It's texture and texture is eye candy, indeed! The gates are beautiful and with the wall, look like something out of a time long ago. Even with the sign and the people, I can imagine a carriage rolling through those gates up to some lovely mansion surrounded by more trees like those in this pic! A shot for the senses and the imagination, Phil! Great work!
What a beautiful scene Phil - it reminds me of the back entrance to Wimpole Hall - maybe we commoners prefer the tradesman's side!! Thank goodness for 'straighten' when you've got a dog in hand!!
@new2this thanks ann, it's a municipal park (that means it's run by the local council / government), so it's a free public space with a lake, gardens, childrens play park .....ooooh and a little Aviary :) too
@judithg Thank you Judith, I only found the 'straighten tool' a few weeks ago ..... like most blokes I refused to read the help screens / tutorials and tried to work it out myself !!
@glendq Glendq it's still winter here (coldest days of winter so far ...-5C overnight and 4C during the day) ...the greens you see through the gate are evergreen trees (firs)
@marlboromaam Maggie, thanks for your kind words, your imagination has run quite wild !!!...there is an old building that is used by the council as offices, but it's not really up to 'old' mansion / abbey / hall stature !! Trust you to think of horses too :)
I've got an image of you trying to take a photo while being pulled off balance by Ruby! Nice how you've framed the people between the bars of the gate :o)
This looks as elegant as the gates of Kensington Palace. I love the fine detail you have manged to capture in this composition. The graceful branches and the beautiful wrought gates are really lovely.
how beautiful those gates are.
i have little wrought iron gates at my walk way.
you make this look majestic.
