50 mono portraits at 50mm : No. 38 : Keith

I'm up to number 38 in my mono series.

When I started my series my first few images were members of Arnold and District Camera Club. Now the nights are lighter, I can grab a few shots of members to push me towards the final run in

Keith has been a member of the club for a while, He specialise in doing now and then images of Nottingham and surrounding districts. What I mean by that is he finds an old archive picture of Nottingham and then photos the same scene today. He knows all about flash settings and gave us all an impromptu lesson in 'flash photography' a couple of years back.

Always willing to share his knowledge of photography with his fellow club members

Edited in Rawtherapee with a film filter of a Polaroid 672. I tried to control the highlights in Keith's hair and the top of his head.

I don't know the image should be more contrasty as it has a greys scale feel rather than lots of black tones. Having said that I did do a deep contrast version and I felt it was a bit too false and came out more of a caricature rather than portrait.

Wonderful portrait.

I think your portraits are excellent Phil and I love reading about the characters too. I love this one because of his smile and the way he's not looking at the camera. The detail is brilliant.

@busylady thanks judith for those kind words, the 50mm lens is a great lens (ideal for portraits and less than £100), I shoot most of my portraits on my old DSLR the 450D

@kerristephens cheers kerri

@bizziebeeme thank you lou :)

Looks great to me. Another wonderful portrait. His face conveys warmth and contentedness. Keith sounds like the sort of chap we all would like to know.

Great result Phil - well done!

A lovely portrait and even before I read your comment about processing, I was thinking you'd done really well not to have shine on the top of Keith's head.

Love it just the way it is! You have a deft hand at these, Phil. I find high contrast a bit harsh for portraiture - keep doing what you're doing.

I think you see the best in people and it shows in your portraiture. He looks cheerful, kind and as if he might have a slightly dry sense of humour.
