I always like a mono shot and I've been doing some reading up about different ways of converting. I've been experimenting with pseudo greys (gives you more range in your greys) and making my blacks deeper and my contrast higher, in an attempt to give my mono's a more punchy feel.
This is my attempt at doing the above with a candid streetie style shot from Nottingham's Goose Fair at the weekend.
Quite an eclectic mix of fair goers and some great smiles.
I don't know if I have gone a little over the top on my conversion , but here it is. An added bonus is the letterbox format, which long term followers know I really like :)
Instant fav for this mono shot of these fair fair-goers! I think the processing could be a bit OTT in a different shot but here I think it works to give definition to a photo where there is a lot going on - hope you understand that, Phil..
Fav. Great processing and tones, Phil. I am never happy with my rare mono shots. Love the smiling/laughing faces. A smile on the face makes you more photogenic, don't you think so?
Glove this one Phil & a Fave ......works great in black & white but for me if I had taken this photo I would have been bowled over by the probable lovely colours of those head scarves...sorry forgotten the correct name!
What a lovely name is the Nottingham Goose Fair!
@quietpurplehaze thanks haze, I understand your comments re OTT, if this was a portrait the processing woul be wrong
