This is Rex, a member of Arnold and District Camera Club.
We had a practical night at the club on Monday Evening and I asked Rex to pose for me under Gary's lights.
I usually edit in Rawtherapee , but I also have Darktable (open source free editor that is up there , some say better, than Lightroom.....get it ...dark room, light table ...a play on words). Anyway, I don't know what I did other than faff around switching things on and off and adjusting sliders and the monochrome wheel.
Not bad though :)
Rex is an experienced photographer and he is an expert at mounting prints and often demonstrates his print mounting technique to new members. Rex is a Canon man.
Rex was my first ever portrait in the 50 mono portraits at 50mm project I completed last year.
Worth viewing large and on black if you have time for a couple of mouse clicks
Looks great on black Phil, just his face looking out at you! Nice proper detail without going too overboard with the contrast. I believe you are promoted to judge..... many congratulations! I read it somewhere.
@happypat oh yes pat, I am now a judge no less lol, on the north and east midlands camera club circuit (I think I mentioned it when critiquing judith's silhouette shot) . . thanks for the kind words on my shot :)
@allie912 I will be sure to mention this to Rex when I see him next allison
Excellent and professional (would expect no less from a judge - congrats!) I thought it was John Major at first. I could not view this on black and remember somebody else flagging this up on the site - must look for the comments and see what transpired.
Really great on black. Another fab portrait. I must look into Darktable although I don't shoot in RAW so maybe I won't get as much benefit from editing software.
@allie912 I will be sure to mention this to Rex when I see him next allison
