Contre Jour Park Gates Parklife by phil_howcroft

Contre Jour Park Gates Parklife

I've tried for a dramatic contre jour contrasty monochrome,

Jane and Ruby (that's our little whippet for those of you who don't know) about to exit the Park Gates of Arnot Hill Park and a unknown lady about to exit too.

Edited in Rawtherapee and with an Ilford XP2 film emulation

All the people
So many people
They all go hand in hand
Hand in hand through their parklife
Know what I mean?
I like this!

Dramatic light and shade. And dogs always want to go the other way!

Singing along with the photo! But Phil, could you please explain contre jour? Sorry to be so ignorant!! :-)

Contre jour sounds very technical! You've certainly achieved a great result whatever your intention. Love the light and shadows.

Your mono shots are always very powerful and beautiful, Phil. And this is one of them, for sure.

I've seen these gates before Phil! They look wonderful back lit like this! I think Ruby would like to stay!

@Cherrill Cherrill....contre jour....is a name given to photos shot directly into the light / sunlight. The technique creates striking light and shadows. "Contre Jour" translates as "against the day" ...Worth a google.

@quietpurplehaze thank you haze, yes Ruby is wanting a good sniff , and is quite the norm for her !!!

@alinz thank you ali :)
