100 Strangers : No. 90 : Gordon by phil_howcroft

100 Strangers : No. 90 : Gordon

My second stranger from last weeks Open Gardens Day, In Nottingham's Park Estate.

Well it was actually my first, but I have posted it second !

This is Gordon, who is the owner of one of the houses who opened their gardens to the public.

I started talking to Gordon asking him about his garden and where the sun, set and rose in his garden. Gordon told me the best spots to eat breakfast, lunch and tea Al Fresco.

It was a lovely garden , very mature with lots of lawn space. I asked Gordon if he had a gardener. Gordon told me he did make use of a gardener but also liked to do some gardening too.

There was a band playing in Gordon's garden, the Red Hat Band. I asked Gordon what was the connection between him and the band.

Gordon told me there was no connection. He was part of the organising committee for the Open Day and volunteered his garden as a venue for the band. In fact Gordon is the only male on the organising committee. The event brochure showed a picture of the committee and Gordon was the only male in a group of 16 volunteers.

Gordon was a charted survey before he retired. I asked Gordon if he had done any prestigious buildings, but Gordon explained it just tended to be commercial properties.

After our chat I introduced Gordon to the idea of being one of my strangers, which he was only to happy to accept, as can be seen by his lovely smile.

We shook hand after the photoshoot and as I left I heard Gordon telling his wife about our meeting :)

Thanks for being stranger number 90 Gordon.

This picture is number 90 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

An excellent photograph. I do think your Canon has the edge, in terms of skin tones and detail, but I would be proud to post any of your images, made with either camera. You are close to 100. Any thoughts on what kind of a portrait that will be?

@allie912 Thanks Allison , I am looking for number 100 already, although it could be two months before I get there. I want to finish with a top quality no. 100. I have seen people in the 100 strangers group on flickr get stuck on 99 for quite some time !!! I don't want to get stuck ! As for comparison between the Sony and Canon, I think I need a Sony 50mm f1.8 lens for the Sony to do a true comparison :)

Fav. For some reason he reminds me of Ivan Stevens, a common friend on 365 and on fb. I like his smile and you got another winner for your project. I regret seeing your new posts because you are getting closer to the end of your project. I hate to smile for the camera, probably because I feel awkward posing.
