100 Strangers : Round 2 : No. 104 : Katie

It was the Nottingham Green Festival today. To quote from their website "The place for the whole family to learn, explore and try the latest in everything environmentally friendly and ethical, whilst also having lots of fun in the beautiful setting of the Arboretum Park".

I think that is a fairly accurate description and at last years event I got four stranger pics.

Today I got just the one stranger shot, Katie. Sometimes "less is more" and Katie's lovely smile and catchlights in her eyes makes for a great stranger photo.

Katie was on an information stall for the Royal College of Nursing, providing information about the organisation and more importantly raising peoples awareness of the governments restrictive policy of Nurses pay. Nurses have only received 1% annual pay rises over the last 7 years.

I told Katie I worked in a local school for the city council and I too was subject to the same restrictions.

As you might have guessed Katie is a nurse and works at Nottingham Queens Medical Centre.

I signed Katie's petition and she gave me a "scrap the cap" badge to wear (which is now on my coat). I also blagged a free RCN pen too . "We only give them out if people ask" said Katie's friend.

A link to the RCN campaign on Nurses pay can be seen in the link below:

I gave Katie one of my cards so she can check my 100 strangers project and thanked her for her time.

I shot the picture at f2.5 to get some nice bokeh and make the cluttered background blurry. I shot 15 pictures of Katie, but as with many stranger shots I do, I often find the first picture is the one I end up posting. I edited the RAW file image in darktable and then sent it to GIMP to clone out a few bits of bright colours in the background.

If you find this picture Katie, I hope you like it. Thank you for allowing me to include you in my strangers project.

This picture is number 104 in my second round of my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

Fav - gorgeous portrait. I often find also that the first shot is the best. I think it is when the subject has just been talking with the photographer and is most relaxed.
