100 Strangers : Round 2 : No. 133 : Jan by phil_howcroft

100 Strangers : Round 2 : No. 133 : Jan

My second stranger from Arnold Carnival. This is Jan who I met at an information stall for the Royal British Legion.

I explained the 100 strangers project to Jan and she was a willing participant.

i tried several different locations to photograph Jan but the best one in a crowded park was against the backdrop of some trees.

As you can see Jan is dressed in the uniform. Jan is the standard bearer of the Nottinghamshire Branch.

Jan has been a member of the Royal British Legion for 9 years, for 6 of those years she has been the standard bearer.

Jan is ex RAF and now works as a dental hygienist .

Jan spoke highly about the Legion, saying she was proud to put something back into the community after her life in the RAF.

Thanks for being stranger 133 Jan and good luck with your Standard bearing.

i edited the photo in Rawtherapee and GIMP .

Is the British Royal Legion the same as the French Foreign Legion? Nice angle for her face!

Beautiful portrait shot, Phil, and as usual, I loved the story. Jan has a wonderful smile. My dad was enlisted in the RAF in the final WWii years and I remember he was a member of the British Legion. We spent his last one and a half years in the services in Cheshire. I was only around 4 - 6 years old but still got some memoires of that experience.
