Black and White Daisies Anyone ? by phil_howcroft

Black and White Daisies Anyone ?

Breaking all natural history rules by doing mono flowers.

These daisies started life in my Mum's garden.

I took some cuttings 2 years ago and transplanted then into our garden.

We now have two beautiful displays in our garden of these all summer long flowering daisies.

they make nice cut flowers too, lasting for what seems ages in a vase.

The vase here is a fruit preserve jar (from Lildl or Aldi)

I think the black and white works well.

The jar is sat on our decking rails, so I can get a nice diffused uncluttered background. Looks good viewed large on black if you have the time

I always quite like black and white flowers it brings out the details nice shot :)

Beautiful vase and flowers. The B&W is so crisp. May I ask what program did you use? In addition to your photographic ability, of course…😃

@caterina Caterina . I use open source photo editors. Open Source software is free and state of the art. Open source is like a cooperative of developers who build fabulous software . I also use Open Source for office apps e.g. libre office rather than miicrosoft office.
For photo editing I devop my digital RAW files in either Rawtherapee or Darktable (they are like Lightroom or should I say Lightroom is like them ) . Once developed I send them to GIMP (similar to Photoshop) for things like cloning or if you are very geeky layers etc. If you don't shoot RAW you can edit your jpegs in GIMP. For all thinks "open source " digital photography take a look at this website https://pixls.us/software/
You won't be disappointed. The mono conversion in the image above was done using the GMIC plugin for GIMP

@phil_howcroft thank you Phil. Precious and detailed info! I will check the website and I will also start photographing a raw more often, but then 365 does not accept the file, probably too heavy so I guess I should reduce the size before uploading. Is my hypothesis correct? Thank you again!

@caterina I edit in raw and save as jpeg then make minor changes in gimp and save as jpeg again 😀
