The New Normal - The Social Distance Queue at Sainsbury's

My first post with my new camera - a Sony A7, a full frame DSLR

It's a new camera but it has been around for a few years. It gets great reviews and I can use all my vintage lenses and adapters with it.

This was shot with the kit lens that comes with the camera. I've ordered a brand new lens (not arrived yet), quite unusual for me, but more about that when it arrives.

Anyway this is the new norm, social distancing to enter a shop. I am sure many of you have joined such a queue and many photographed such a queue, but it is the new normal for some time.

The big dark rain cloud in the top left hand corner created quite a downpour about 15 minutes after I shot this photo, which would not have been much fun for the shoppers queueing. Ruby and I were on our way home when the downpour came, so we sheltered under a canopy of trees.

You captured a dramatic sky in the background, but a nice capture to document your new norm. I hope Ruby and you didn't get too wet. Stay safe!

I’m shocked at the queue here Phil....no queues like that here...I would turn round & go straight home! I was so shocked to see the queues outside Ikea in all that heat too....I’m beginning to count our blessings even though we have had quite a surge in cases in parts of the north west. Please stay safe & try & pick a quieter time perhaps....all good photo fodder though so that’s one good thing! Great photo of historic times!

@happypat Pat, there was no one near Ruby and myself when we took the photo , Jane does our shopping and times her visits to supermarkets when there are no queues.

@marlboromaam thanks maggie , the new norm is here for some time , the downpour was about 10 minutes so we were OK :)

A good record shot Phil. Our church have been collecting photos on different themes for 4 weeks. This week's theme is 'combatting lockdown'. This would have been a good shot, for the theme. However, I haven't been shopping as I'm one of those who has to stay very careful for 12 weeks.

I thought this was Folkestone at first Phil! Are you seeing many masks?
June 6th, 2020
Yep! I think it is the same here though we haven't been out shopping and relying on home deliveries. To crown it all Christine was out walking with me and we met my son with his dog who first jumped up to greet me and then lunged to do the safe to Christine. She was startled, lost her balance and fell back and broke her right wrist. So lockdown continues for us.

Hope you enjoy your new camera, Phil. It's very popular but too heavy for me. We have been lucky to find delivery slots for Sainsbury's so far as I cannot say that I fancy the supermarket experience now.

@quietpurplehaze thanks haze, my daughters and wife thought it looked like "your other camera" (my sony A6000) . The kit lens is quite heavy, but I am impressed with the results I've got with the lens. My new lens (arriving Monday) is rather light :)

@sangwann Dione , sorry to learn that christine has broke her wrist ! stay safe

@fbailey a few people on the streets wear masks, but they are in the minority . I suspect that stat is just about to change

@allie912 thank you allison i will do :)

@pdulis here for a while peter !

@beryl "picking one's time " seems to be a good solution beryl :)

@busylady judith , stay safe as long as possible , I think we might be in for a spike in the R value

Such a ghastly way to shop! I use the independents.. always did.. and they have set up phone-in or on-line ordering systems with delivery arrangements. Unfortunately I miss the face to face chats with the staff! We are still well and truly in lockdown in Wales... in my view the Welsh Govt are being far more sensible and staying closer to scientific advice than Johnson's Govt (as I would expect!)
