On Thursday my wife and I went to an “Tasting Evening” at Bistro Pierre in Nottingham. It was a free event allowing you to sample a few new items from the summer menu with a glass of bubbles. We booked a table early doors and arrived in the city centre about 45 minutes before the table was booked. My wife went to a few shops and I had a wander around the Market Square area looking for potential strangers. There was a food and drink market in the square, but is was rather too busy with lots of people, especially the bar area tables. So I left and had a wander towards speakers corner and the Brian Clough statue. Sat on the plinth of the statue were two young ladies, drinking what looked liked cocktails in plastic glasses. I assumed they had moved away from the bar area of the food and drink market, to enjoy their drinks.
The two young ladies were wearing fabulous summer outfits and I thought they would make great strangers for my project. I don’t normally get nervous asking strangers for a photo, but I was a little nervous this time.
Anyway meet Tia and Tia, who were really pleased to say “Yes” to my request for a photo. Tia on the left hand side of the frame is actually a Tia Maria, she laughed when she told me, but subsequent emails between myself and Tia confirm that she is a Tia Maria
I asked how they met each other and Tia Maria told me they met when they lived in shared accommodation, which also had another Tia, so three Tia’s
Tia Maria and Tia told me their ages and why they were out celebrating, but as a gentleman I shouldn’t share a ladies age on a public forum.
I did some full length shots of Tia and Tia and also some headshots too. The location and time of the shoot meant the city was busy and the background quite cluttered. I could have asked Tia and Tia to move to an alternate location but nothing jumped out in the near vicinity as an ideal location.
It was quite a rushed shoot as I was keeping an eye on the time to meet my wife. I thanked Tia and Tia for letting me take their photos and gave them a card to contact me for the photos. Tia asked me if I could take a photo of them with her iphone, which I did .
By the time I got to the restaurant I had an email on my phone from Tia Maria asking me to send her some photos. I sent her some that evening and she said they were lovely and I have a good eye !

PS I love a drop of Tia Maria. Sounds so exotic. Then a friend pointed out Tia is aunt…..so the name means Auntie Mary, which has always made me smile.
