100 Strangers : Round 3 : No. 279 : Helen and Gin

My second stranger from Nottingham Pride 2021.

Eagle eyed among you will notice “Gin the pub dog” from earlier in my photostream in the window of the Six Barrels pub, with Helen. It was Gin who I spotted first and asked Helen if it was her dog and was she the landlady of the pub.

“No it’s not my dog, I am a customer, the dog’s called ‘Gin’, I am here watching Pride. It’s my first Pride, I am here to learn, I work in a pub in Arnold and need to understand”

“Ahh right, I’m from Arnold, what pub do you work in”

Helen told me the name of the pub.

“Really, that’s quite a recent addition to Arnold, it’s quite upmarket for our town centre. Are you the manager there”

“No, my best friend owns it, I work there”

“Does your friend own the bar across the street too?” (another new bar, again quite up market for Arnold)

“No, they are rivals, but we are opening a bar a few door down from us, it used to be a children’s milk bar”

“Oh yes I know where you mean”

“Well in early October it is going to be a sports bar, an Irish bar”

“That will be a good addition”

“I am working tomorrow from 3 o’clock to 11 o’clock. Are you going to come for a drink”

“Well we don’t tend to drink in pubs and bars, we’d prefer a meal out in a restaurant to a drink in a bar”

“OK, well we have a 50’s theme afternoon on a Wednesday, from 3 o’clock, lots of ladies come dressed in 50s outfits and we play swing music”

“That a good idea, is it popular”

“Yes very popular”

“Actually I am an amateur photographer, I take photos of people I meet on the streets, can I take yours?”

“Yes of course you can”

“Where’s Gin gone, can you get her on the photo too?”

Helen goes and retrieves Gin. And then I take some photos.

“Wow look at that costume” says Helen admiring the Parade still passing by “I must photograph it and she gets her mobile phone out

I show Helen the photos on the back of my camera.

“Awww they are nice, can you make me look slimmer”

“I don’t know how to do that”

I give Helen a contact card.

“Thanks Phil, I like you, you’ve shown a lot of interest”

“That’s kind of you”

I actually bumped into Helen a few days later, she was walking the pub dog of her pub and I was walking Ruby ! I told her the photos I took were fabulous and reminded her to email me. She said she would but has never emailed me.
A lovely portrait of Helen and Gin! LOL! Did you make her look slimmer?

She has a very warm smile, but Gin looks a little unsure about this parade business!
