This is Szi, well that’s what her Instagram account says. I saw Szi sat in Market Square Nottingham on Monday. She looked fabulous her hair, hat and piercings just had to be photographed. By the time I’d seen how fabulous Szi looked I had walked past her, so I did another loop of the square and then approached her for a photo.
I told her about my project and said she would be great to photograph. Szi agreed straight away. She’s a student as was sat with a friend vaping. I asked about the logo on her hat and asked what it meant. Szi didn’t know, but she said she liked it. It was very busy where she was sat, with people sat close by on either side of her, so I wasn’t quite as relaxed as I normally am and didn’t really get many details for a back story.
We added each other on Insta, so Szi could see the photos. I asked her name and I thought she said Charlotte, but then I said to myself “well she’s just added me on Insta, so I will check my phone after I walk away. Well I checked my phone and her account said Szi, so I will go with Szi.Thanks for letting me photograph you Szi, I hope you like the photos
Footnote : I posted the photos onto Insta and Szi liked them within seconds, she also direct messaged me to tell me " her name is Cynthia, (preferred spelling) and the actual spelling is Szintia" ...so I was wrong with Charlotte ...but almost right !
You're right Cynthia is a fabulous model, the pink in her hair, tee-shirt and headphone soften the skulls and black outfit. You made a beautiful portrait where we can see her determination.
Love to see the youth of today carrying the flag for alternative style in their own myriad unique ways - it may be hard to understand (or more likely remember for a lot of us 🤣🤣) but it's the way it should be.
