I was in Nottingham today, walking the streets before my wife and I went to one of our fave restaurants for a lunch.
I was in Hockley and noticed what looked like a big group of students taking photos. Most were taking a photo of a mural of Nottingham Performing Arts people. The most prominent actor in the mural was Su Pollard, the larger than life character from the BBC sit com TV series Hi-de-Hi!...”Ho-de-ho” I hear all readers of this narrative shout back. That last sentence will be lost on most of the none UK readers of this narrative and may have been lost on the students too.
I approached them camera in hand and asked if they were photography students.
The young lady in the photo told me they were “Photography and Film” students doing a foundation degree. They were on tour of the city. I asked them where they were from. Kuwait said the young lady. I actually didn’t understand her pronunciation and one of her fellow students typed it on my phone !!!
I asked if I could take her photo for my street strangers project, she agreed straight away and I asked her to stand in front of a rustic doorway. The photos I got were fabulous and I asked her if I could post them on Instagram. She handed me her phone to type in my Instagram name. I did so and clicked “follow”.
“Is your name on your account” I said
“Yes she said” (I’d already asked her name but thought I’d get the correct spelling from her Instagram account)
Anyway, I was having terrible internet connection problems in the city today (very unusual as the reception is always excellent) and the notification never arrived. So I’ve left the name off my stranger title and hope the young lady contacts me on Instagram so I know her correct name .
