Rummaging around the kitchen looking for matches so we could light a smelly candle, something made me check an App on my phone. Showed Carole this display and even she was surprised by the time.
I can remember, vividly, when I had my last cigarette - a Christmas doo in Bath, slightly worse the wear for booze, stood outside All Bar One under the Abbey and lit the cigarette. One puff and realised I didn’t want it. Stubbed it out and walked back into the bar, leaving the packet and lighter in the smoking area. Haven’t touched one since.
I still consider myself a smoker and as such my mantra is “I haven’t had a cigarette today.”
Well done. I gave up smoking on the 1st January 2000 and haven't thought about it since.
Last month we were at a friends birthday party in a winery restaurant and we needed to light the candles on her cake. Would you believe that nobody in the restaurant either had a lighter or a box of matches. Sign of the times, nobody has a lighter in their bag or pocket these days. In the end the chef lit one candle from the gas flame on the cooker. Not a single smoker in the restaurant.
@onewing I’ve noticed in the last yet or so that smokers are in a minority now. I hate the smell of it, but I know that if I were to drop my guard and have one, I’d be immediately back to 20 a day.
