Garden Visitor - Greenfinch by phil_sandford

Garden Visitor - Greenfinch

A not that regular visitor to our garden, saw them a few times when I was positing a regular theme of 'garden visitors' in the last month or so, but they never stayed long enough to photograph.

Today, 3 of them in the garden, languishing on the feeders, enjoying the fayre. (peculiarly, last week when I did the RSPB Bird Watch, not a single Greenfinch was visible for my allotted hour) and taking their time basking in the sunshine

They were flitting around, with the Goldfinches, at the Niger Seeds and the Sunflower Hearts, but this chap stayed on the peanut feeder for ages.

Apparently within the UK their numbers took quite a significant nose dive in the 70's & 80's but they rebounded in the 90's (apparently, numbers have fallen again in the last few years due to disease)

A lovely bird and welcome in my garden at any time.

A wonderful capture, nice and sharp. We used to get greenfinches in the garden but I haven't seen one for a long time.
