Some of my colleagues have been watching my project. One of them, after asking a few weeks ago what camera I used (primarily my Canon EOS 750D (the Canon Rebel T6i in the US)) I said that it was only a 'half frame CMOS and that I was leaning towards changing to a full frame to get better performance in low light" (see, almost a year into the project, I'm talking like I know what I'm talking about)
Anyway, during yesterday's Training Day at our offices in cheltenham, he came into my office and lent me this .........
Will be out comparing the half frame 750D with the full frame 5D this weekend. Happy Philip.
@paul10 Cheers buddy. I'll have fun comparing the two caneras; intend to take same photo with both 750D and 5D and compare them side by side on PC. The cost difference is quite staggering that I will say.
Have fun with the new toy. It will be interesting to see some comparison shot. Of course, I really think it is mostly the photographer, and not the camera!
@henrir it will, if it's noticeable 😃
If I find a way of putting up both photographs I shall. And I think you are also absolutely right, the proof is on this project, there are some truly fantastic photographs shot on a mobile phone or a" point & shoot' camera, so it is primarily down to the photographer 'seeing' the shot (but I would like to 'play' with low light, no flash, outdoor shots that a full frame will permit me to do.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond i believe it is a combination of both. The likes of David Bailey, Lord Snowdon, Bryan Adams etc use full frame cameras, not half frame. It isn't all about the photographer, it's about the equipment also 😜
@terryliv I absolutely agree. To have somebody lend me a 5D is hugely complimentary and shows he trusts me. (Our landlady on our recent holiday had a 5D also, and told us "nobody touches my camera") 😜😜
It least it gives you the chance to see if there is an amazing difference or not! There is a saying that, "if something is worth doing, it's worth doing well"! I think Austin is a very generous man letting you borrow this ! Hope you'll let me have a go too.
@louannwarren I know my 750D can't do the moonlit bay in southern Cornwall. I know it can't do owls flying at dusk (tried both miserably 😜😜) I've seen that the 5D can, so have been lucky enough to have been trusted with his 5D for 'as long as you want it Phil"
@carole_sandford It'll be worth using to see if it is worth the extra(considerably extra) expense. You say I am my Mother's son; if that were true, I would already have a 5D Mk4 😜😜 (yes, you can have a play x)
I changed to full frame about a year ago. But Nikon equivalents. But still use my old APS-C format, on occasion. Today, I happened to have it with me when a rare and exciting photo op presented itself to me. As they always say, the best camera is always the one you have with you. I did grab some pretty decent photos with it. But I do so wish that I had had my full frame with me. Sometimes on 365, I see someone who's photos look particularly impressive technically. Most often when I look to see what they shot with, it will be a full frame camera with more megapixels than mine has. (Mine is Nikon's entry level full frame camera body.) So, I have to say it is an endless quest. But changing to full frame is definitely worth it. But then you will likely want to upgrade your lenses. (And endless spiral, albeit a fun one.
