One from my stroll around Bradford-on-Avon the other evening; the canal side was full of the narrow boats moored up for the evening, with many of the 'skippers' cooking their dinner. I saw this one, it having just come through the BOA lock looking for an evening mooring
Very interesting. I'm with @louannwarren I never knew about the canals and long boats before 365 either. It's interesting they moor there for the night. Do people live in these long boats.
@henrir@louannwarren Some folk live on the narrow boats permanently, yes. They can moor up anywhere for a certain length of time and then have to move on. One of these narrow boats, with bedrooms, loos, galley, dining area etc will cost considerably less than a house here in the UK.
Others, like the one my sister & her husband were on, can be hired for a period of time and you self navigate yourself around the UKs waterways.
A colleague of mine from the Army has recently bought an ongoing business of 2 narrowboats (1 with an engine & 1 with just berths) and he sails up and down the watwrways of the North West with paying guests.
An idylic holiday methinks; but not a way of life (not for me)
@phil_sandford thank you for the explanation! A bit of a nomadic life since you can’t stay in one place too long. I prefer to come home to the same place every day. Ha!
I love your picture and all of the fun comments! I would love to do just that but - out of time and money. We did that in a sailboat here in the US. There are waterways that we took and then hooked up for the night. I have lived on my sailboat for years at a time and love every minute of it. Now I am a landlubber!
@30pics4jackiesdiamond My buddy from the Army, who bought the narrowboat business was a Captain in the Army, calls himself the Captain of his boats today and he does the cooking Jak. Not always the lock winders. 😜
