Vicar’s Close, Wells
This is Vicars Close, in the City of Wells, Somerset, UK.
This is reputed to be the oldest purely residential street in Europe with its original buildings still standing and is a ‘must see’ if you ever visit.

It's also gated and the only way out when closed was over the covered bridge and into the Cathedral for prayers as this was place where the Priests were housed for the Cathedral.
