An early start for me, was booked into the local Council Domestic Waste Recycling Centre for 0815.
They run an online booking system, to ensure numbers are controlled and to ensure ‘track & tracing’ can take place. Ours is open 7 days a week and on certain days you can drop off certain things; Saturdays permits Electricals, Paper and Bulk Waste.
I had loaded the car with a ton of cardboard boxes and an old HiFi system that I’d brought down from the loft when putting Christmas decorations back, plus other ‘junk’ from the garage on Wednesday. Weather forecast on going to bed was temperatures of -3° and icy roads. I told Carole that if bad I wouldn’t go.
I woke up early, as I always do, and the roads didn’t look too bad; defrosted the car whilst brewing a cup of tea and headed out for the 7 mile trip which was uneventful.
I was alone at the site; me and 2 operatives, both like me wearing masks, but they were also wearing body cameras. I asked how come to be told they were being worn due to the threats of physical violence many of them receive when folk just ‘turn up’ not having booked and are refused entry. I despair of the UK.
Whilst putting the seats of my car back up and sorting it out for my return home, I took this shot of the sun through the mist & fog with my phone.
Wow, your local centre is so organised! At mine, you still just turn up and queue. I am sad the staff find themselves under threat. I guess many people are a bit close to the edge stresswise and it spills over a little too easily.
Beautiful sunrise, what glorious colours and soft glow.
