A beautiful specimen. WE only have purple lupines here and they grow as wild flowers. You have such lovely flowers in your garden and you shoot them so beautifully. Do you have any favorite f stop to achieve that depth of field. A fav.
@mbrutus Don't really have a ‘favourite’ f-stop but will on shots like this attempt to de-focus the background as much as possible so as not to detract from the subject. I’ll start with 2.8 and check end result on the camera screen and adjust if needs be (the joys of digital over wet film)
We have yellow, red, pink & purple lupins here in the UK. Have never grown from seed, always bought from nurseries.
@phil_sandford - I usually handle the defocus about the same. But sometimes the bright sun makes it too hard to check the display very carefully. Shading it with my hat doesn't usually make it much better. As for lupines, I have only seen them as wildflowers here in California. Sadly, some of my favorite patches have been crowded out by invasive grasses in recent years.
