foraging flatlay by pistache

foraging flatlay

thank you for the very kind comments and favs on my astrantia and magnolia rainbow images ... the course i'm intermittently doing on still life photography (i never seem to finish a photography course, but dip in and out of several as the mood takes me, ho hum) suggested a walk, a forage and a return to set the foraged items out in a flatlay composition. since i was as unenamoured as i always am by my flatlays, i added some texture for today's red rainbow
I really like the colors here.

Wonderful red. So your word “flatlay”, what a great word. I’ve never heard it before! Cool!

Beautiful rich colours. Can I be so nosy as to enquire what colour the actual tiles were ? Just trying to figure out how much you added colour with the texture and how much was native to the original shot.

Wow... so pretty!

@gardencat you certainly can, joanne! the texture in the image comes largely from the original tiles, which are kind of pockmarked, but they are a plain cream colour, so all the reds and pinks come from the overlay shot, which was a blurred-out rug that i photographed staying in our airbnb in washington dc a while back :) hope that makes sense?

@louannwarren hi lou ann. i think it just means shooting a still life from above, all laid out flat below you, rather than a side-on angle, which it turns out i'm much more drawn to! i only return to flatlays because i love other people's when i see them ;)

I think flatlays are hard to do. I like that you have the foraging them and you’ve tied it together with the string around. I like the background color and texture also.

I like the brilliant colors!

good idea to frame your foraging haul with the string. I'm realising that doing photography that doesn't come naturally to you is actually the best way of learning something. You will be turning out stunning flatlays in no time Clare - a woman with your skills!
