reminisce

i'm reading all the letters my pa wrote his parents from a 1957 trip that he undertook with six fellow spanish students. they drove to southern spain in a 1930s london taxi. pa was the only legal driver, my godfather b having failed his test two weeks before they departed, and was also chief mechanic, with delayed postal assistance from his father. they had numerous breakdowns and adventures, in a time when none of them had previously been abroad, and they were feted and photographed by many of the officials they encountered along the way. even as dementia robbed him of his memory, looking at the album he made of that trip would prompt all kinds of happy tales
wonderful

How lovely! Those of us who have letters belonging to departed family have a wonderful treasure of memories. Have you seen @quietpurplehaze father's war diaries? She has now had them published. I have recently discovered my great uncle witnessed the 1914 Christmas Truce and have copies of his letters home from the trenches. I am hoping to make a small book of his writings. Love the way you have presented your story here. fav

What a lovely thing to be doing with the remainder of the festive mince pies by your side. The letters will be very precious to you. I think the youth in those days were amazingly strong and adventurous in their explorations.
