2015 04 12 - Kingfisher

A mere colourful dot on a pole, with a 100 mile round trip to capture it.........and I would go again in a heartbeat just to see them. The hide is really too far away to get a good image unless you get really lucky with them landing on a stick near the hide.

Lovely shot Sarah.

Well spotted and caught in context!

He is beautiful!! Come closer Come closer!! Do you loose much detail if you crop in tighter? Always a Fav for a kingfisher!!
April 12th, 2015
@pamknowler Pam, he is fairly cropped already, maybe I should try a little more :) This was at Rye Meads, superb hide, but just a tad too far for a 100-400 I wonder if a 2 x extender would help?
April 12th, 2015
Super capture! You must have had alot of patience to get this.
April 12th, 2015
Fabulous shot, I've not seen one in the wild before.
April 12th, 2015
@pixiemac Worth a try Sarah with the extender. I think I lost AF when I used the my extender on the 100-400 and had to use manual focus. Ok if you focus on the perch.

That looks like Rye Mead??
April 12th, 2015
Should have phoned me and you could have use my 160-600. Look at my shot from the other day.

I have been talking to friends today about kingfishers and they said I should go out on their boat on the river so I'm hoping when that happens I might get a shot. Lovely shot and such beautiful colours on him - Fav

An outstanding capture.
April 12th, 2015
@padlock Clive, it was :) what an amazing place...........thanks for the idea :)
April 12th, 2015
@padlock Do you live far from there?
April 12th, 2015
@rosiekind Hope you find one, I always see the bronze colour before the blue. One of the guys at work says when he used to fish they used to sit on the end of his fishing rod ................ grrrr and he isn't a photographer!
April 12th, 2015
@pixiemac no 20 mins

Fab capture of this little guy. Really well spotted and captured.
April 13th, 2015
What beautiful colours, I think they are related to our kookaburras.
April 13th, 2015
Fantastic blue :)
April 13th, 2015
Great find Sarah!
April 14th, 2015
Fabulous capture! :)
April 14th, 2015
How exciting to capture a kingfisher, don't think I have ever actually seen one.
April 14th, 2015
Great capture and comp. What is the hide?
April 15th, 2015
@bill_fe Hi Bill, the hide is a purpose built wooden structure. Bird watchers and photographers just have a narrow window to look out of, while sitting on a wooden bench. It stops the birds being scared by us and shelters us from the worst of British weather :)
April 15th, 2015
@paulaw Paula, this RSPB site is near Ware in Herfordshire, is that your neck of the woods?
April 15th, 2015
@pixiemac Ooh not a million miles away, I would guess about an hour's drive. Will have to look into going some time. Thanks Sarah.
