simple and beautiful
I love the vintage feel that you have on your post processing... would you mind sharing how you do this? I've got a shoot coming up soon that this would be absolutely lovely for
@toast Thanks! :) I use Photoshop and I do processing manually (no filters) - I do a mixture of a flesh-coloured Fill layer set to Multiply, and a dark blue Fill layer set to Screen. Then I fiddle with colour balance and other things until I get the look I want :)
@pocketmouse OMG thats hard core... ok... i may need to pick your brains later but i'm planning a kind of shoot with pointe shoes but not in a typical ballet sense.
Do you approach the shoot with lighting any differently? or is what you get all in post?
@toast Haha yeah I've been using Photoshop for like... 8 years now... it was a steep learning curve and I'm still discovering how to do things!
I do like to achieve a hazy, glare-y look if I can - the super-wide aperture of the f/1.4 helps with that considerably, as does bright light from outside! (Direct sunlight works sometimes, but can be too much other times.)
i've found that sometimes going up in ISO also helps achieve that hazy light... i want to be able to do it more consistently but i found it works well if the light source isnt in the image but just slightly outside of it, or if you have an object between the camera and the light. The other thing i've done is hold me hand up on the lens to shade it when its metering.. then take my hand away and shoot...
