It is geum triflorum - if anyone wants to look it up. (There are many other plants with the common name Prairie Smoke.) This plant grows on dry hills on the prairie.
Less than 1% of Minnesota's native prairie remains, the rest has been plowed or otherwise developed. I am so fortunate that my family owns about 40 acres of virgin prairie (never been plowed) and we have planted / restored another roughly 80 acres around it.
I see I'm not the first to make this a favorite...it's like having another portrait of you, m'friend! I've never seen this flower before, and it's so dainty and exquisite, I even called Ken from the other room to come have a look at it! I just keep thinking, "Beautiful...how beautiful..."
this is oh so stunning. i've never seen anything like this before in real life so i am simply amazed. great capture. i love how it's swaying with the wind.
This is so lovely and you've captured it beautifully - it must be a wonderful sight to see them growing wild on the prairie - I 've always wanted to see real prairies after reading Little House on the Prairie ( and watching the tv series) as a child!
