Gymea Lily in bud by pusspup

Gymea Lily in bud

This lily stands over 2m tall and is very dramatic in flower. This specimen in the middle of the Aussie bush is just coming into bud.

They are such brilliant flowers. We get lots of them here on the coast. Apparently they say that when the Gymea lilies are flowering the whales will be travelling up or down the coast. It seems to be the case because the whales are on the move south again at the moment.
