All old cities in Holland did have this type of design . The canals where necessarily for cheap transport of goods by ships. in the 17-18 th century whe own a lot of prosperity to them. And water we did have enough. It`s regrettable that with to the come of cars a lot of the canals in the cities are filled up and getting transformed into roads. From my childhood I remember the boats activities getting load and unload , now the main purpose for the ones that`s left is recreation
A beautiful scene with nice reflections on the canal. Many canals in the UK have been closed and lost, but in recent years some have been restored and are used for recreation.
Love the curve of the canal and the reflections in the water. I have visited Amsterdam and went on a tour boat to see the history of the buildings on the canal
@bkbinthecity No. @lehy You`re welcome .Thanks , @sangwann Indeed. There are plans to restore it @fishers I know , the Midland canal. @purplehaze12 We have Amsterdam ...and the other part of Holland
What a wonderful photo. It captures the whole spirit of the place. It's a shame that canals have been filled. The waterways seem like such a sensible and environmentally clean way to get around. I do know the Netherlands are well know for the high bicycle use, though.
Lovely pov and reflections in the water. This immediately made me think of our trip to Amsterdam. I'm not a fan of cities and find them overwhelming but I loved Amsterdam which to me had a village feel with the layout of canals.
Sorry, but no any response! I tried to find and ask but nothing.
I think we should ask time to time again if somebody could sometimes know .
I keep trying :)
@ptowncook Those canals are also used as sewerage those days that`s one of the reason the filled them : unhygienic @quietpurplehaze I think every big city is a couple of villages build close together
The more I see of your country through your lovely pictures the more I would like to spend some time there. this canal street with the lovely houses and the canal, the light around that tree with reflection in the water is awesome.
you can tell the wealthy lived by the thriving waterfront.
So inviting photo!
Happy Thursday to you !
Ian
