The town Vlissingen is the main entrance to the ports of Antwerp .Here is where the pilots get on board for a save journey of the river Scheldt . Big ships get very close to the beach and boulevard so there is a slow down for the ships and a warning for the beach lovers . Often it`s very busy . I`ve count sometimes 10 or more ships a hour.
This shot just makes me happy. I'm not sure why but I really like it. I think it reminds me of going fishing with my dad in the gulf of mexico - Corpus Cristie. And.... I loved your Dutch proverb. I tried to say it and I'm not very good, but I can imagine how it is supposed to sound.
Quo Vadis - where are you going. love your title. bust be neat to see the ships that close to shore. are these pilons to warn the ships of the nearnes of thee shore? I love this picture. fav Pyrrhula.
The sea looks calm. When I visited Amsterdam we went by DFDS ferry and the sea was so rough the pilot nearly had to come back to Newcastle with us as he very nearly could not get off the ship.
The pilons are to protect the beach and dunes
