An old dike with pollard willows

Nearly all old dikes still exist as a spare - (sleeping) dikes . You can drive and bike those if you like.

Lovely photo. Lovely green grass too. This dike looks quite a bit like a levy (dike) stored in my memory bank. When I was a teenager, my best friend lived on a farm, which had a levy on its west side. We liked to walk and ride along the levy. Of course, the trees were different, but the road looks so familar.

It's very interesting to read about the dikes and that they can be used additionally as roads. I've not had the opportunity to visit Holland though I hope to someday!
