This door is the entrance to an old orphanage in our city. It was founded in 1628 . Now in use for/by a museum showing the history of this city and country. Last in line of my door series.
Seems a very elaborate door for an orphanage- but I guess the figures were to be welcoming. I've enjoyed your door series- you found some very unique ones!

The orphanage
In 1628 the city Goes in this building founded the orphanage. The essence concern was hitherto very poorly regulated. Orphans were placed in housing with the highest bidder and had to work hard to earn their purchase price and the cost. But also in the orphanage lacked the essence of love and warmth. Still, it was an improvement. Orphans were taught at the school for the poor until they were fourteen. Then they had to learn a trade. For girls it was simple; they were placed as a maid in a family. At school they already had many useful crafts such as knitting, crocheting, stop and learned to adjust. And by working in the orphanage, they could also eat cooking and cleaning;
Really nice, it was not in the orphanage. The building was spartan furnishings; bare sleeping lofts and a bare dining room. For the stove were banks, where the children could sit on in the winter to feel some heat.;
The boys were done with a boss in the doctrine: a carpenter, tailor, blacksmith or anywhere but a place was available to learn a trade. Another possibility was that the boys enroll and went boating, or service names in the army. In any case, they Left the orphanage when they were 18 and were often a certificate and a small savings account with.
WHat an excellent additional story you added! It's always tragic to read that some children had such a difficult start in life. Still, your information meant that they didn't starve and they learned a trade. Often, from such a difficult beginning, with determination, a few succeeded, I'm sure. Your door series was interesting because you found so MANY interesting doors!
