love-in-the-mist for Laurie Lee...

...on today, the centenary of his birth. On this anniversary day, the singer, Cerys Matthews will open a waymarked trail which follows the wildlife walk in the Slad valley where the author grew up. The trail features ten larch posts with Laurie Lee's poems inscribed on glass panels.

Laurie was brought up by his mother, and in the company of six sisters, in a T-shaped 17th century cottage in Slad in the Cotswolds. (I have a pre-digital age photo somewhere if I could dig it out.)

In 'Cider with Rosie' Laurie wrote of his childhood, "I was perfectly content in this world of women."

His grave is in the local churchyard.
Instant fav -- nice to read your snippet as regards to today being the authour's anniversary --And I love Cerys M 's singing voice ! THIS IMAGE IS BEAUTIFUL !

Beryl, thank you for your kind comments and the fav - I took this shot of love-in-the-mist on Tuesday in the gardens at Hinton Ampner so when I read in yesterday's newspaper about the centenary, it seemed just the photo for the 'job'!
