Scenes from the Hospital of St Cross and Almshouse of Noble Poverty
In my collage I've included scenes of the Master's garden, the Norman church, and the Brethren's quarters (bottom left) with tall chimneys casting long shadows on the roof and the grass.
These quarters house one-up one-down individual little flats for the brothers. (I imagine the chimneys are obsolete and that there is central heating!) The brothers are not monks this being a secular and charitable institution founded by Henry de Blois, grandson of William the Conqueror.
It's just a few miles from our house and has become one of my go-to places for a peaceful photo-shoot and these photos are from my most recent visit.
Rosie, thank you. It took me several tries and quite a while to capture that scene as I wanted it as the shadows and light were quite difficult.
