July 29th is the 125th anniversary of Vincent van Gogh's death in a room at the Auberge Ravoux in Auvers-sur-Oise. After he died, Jo, his sister-in-law, wrote to her husband Theo: "If only I'd been a bit kinder to him when he was with us." Her aim in life became the promotion of Vincent's work and a short biography which she wrote in 1913 is now published for the first time: A Mémoir of Vincent van Gogh.
Vincent considered the colour yellow as 'fundamental'. 'He directly associated it with the emotional pitch - "the high yellow note" pursued in paintings.' - source: van Gogh and Gauguin: the Studio of the South
Fabulous collage. I worked for a few years with intellectually disabled adults and one of our clients Jenny would have loved this as a canvas on her wall. she loved yellow, or lellow as she called it.
Molly, thank you. I think having a bad back is good for the imagination. (Lying on the sofa perusing art catalogues.) But it's almost better now so I may be searching for ideas!!!
What a lovely tribute, I adore his work. Everytime I think about van Gogh the song Vincent by Don McLean from way back when comes to my mind https://youtu.be/oxHnRfhDmrk
Karin, thank you - lovely song. I adore van Gogh's work too, have always been fascinated by his paintings and also feel an affinity with what he suffered.
A great tribute to our one of the master painters.
Still I wander. If he did n`t wrote all those letters to his brother would he be as famous as he`s now.
