We all, 4 adults and 2 dogs, went over the fields for a walk this morning. I'm always fascinated by the fruit of this tree aka euonymus europaea.
Along with other small trees, the branches have been laid down and woven into a hurdle hedge at the edge of the field.
from the Woodland Trust website:
"Spindle timber is creamy white, hard and dense. In the past it was used to make ‘spindles’ for spinning and holding wool (hence its name), as well as skewers, toothpicks, pegs and knitting needles."
Not really - I read they have a strong laxative effect!
