butterfly plant by quietpurplehaze

butterfly plant

Like the tulip orchid this butterfly plant was given to us by Jinks' lovely dogsitter.

It has a long posh name which I learnt but have now forgotten.

I like the touches of purple on the butterfly leaves.
Beautiful colours on the leaves. Great shot.

Thank you, Arthur @wordpixman for explaining the bold function so clearly to me!

I've never heard of a butterfly plant before. Delightful and just your colour too.

I love these plants. We have a lot of them here in Cornwall. There is one on our kitchen windowsill that has been with us for about 15 years.

An unusual and wonderful plant to have. I love its leaves and purple flowers Fav.

We saw some in the Eden project in the summer.

Never heard it called a butterfly plant before. I think it's Oxalis triangularis. It's as tough as old boots and impossible to kill - not that you'd want to.
This site says that it's toxic to dogs and cats http://www.ourhouseplants.com/plants/purple-shamrock but that it tastes too nasty for them to go back for seconds!

It looks lovely, the leaves do look like little butterflies :)

@jqf

Yes, that's it, thanks. I guess it's called a butterfly plant by some folk just because of the shape of the leaves!

I know this plant as a kind of shamrock. Lots of them are growing in my daughter's garden and between the bricks of the garden paths.

I really like your angle and composition here Hazel - what a lovely plant. The dark tones with the lighter flowers and light background really works well. :)
