a bowl with a sprig of mistletoe by quietpurplehaze

a bowl with a sprig of mistletoe

This came in my birthday parcel from Clare and is from the new range of cement ware, 'Brutal', created with her business partner, Stuart.

I was very glad to receive it and had this effort at high-key.

Works well on the white background

What an interesting birthday gift, love the way you have added the mistletoe berries but kept the simplicity of the pottery. Great shot Hazel

Well you have nailed this high-key image Hazel, still managing to retaining fine detail and colour:)

Nicely captured!

The handmade-ness is beautifully -- or shall I say, "brutally" evident, and the sprig of mistletoe is just the right touch for it. Being Japanese, I would have searched for a third berry (we have a thing for preferring odd numbers).

@jyokota

I'm smiling because I did have a third berry but the leaves with it fell off so I had to use a substitute piece of mistletoe - which only had 2 berries!

@quietpurplehaze -- funny! But then, since the bowl has three sides, maybe you didn't need three berries :)

@jyokota

Or perhaps two berries and one leaf on my sprig = 3!

Beautiful simplicity Hazel. I love the way you have presented this with that single sprig of mistletoe. As we get older we appreciate beautiful things like this. Well done to,your daughter. Cement is an amazing compound used for all sorts these days! Polished it's so beautiful.

A lovely simplistic bowl in a modern material and design -- Love the deep glaze - giving it a look of being wet - Love the still life you created with the addition of a sprig of holly ! So wonderful to have such personal gifts !

Beautiful, love your set up

Beautiful capture. The bowl looks some antique piece discovered from a Roman ruin.

I'm puzzled as to what else you could put in it!! But certainly a novel idea.

@will_wooderson

I think I shall use it for earrings when I take them off at bedtime but guess it's not relevant for you! (They also come in fruit bowl size - or could be purely decorative.)

I could think of loads of culinary uses too. I think it looks great on white, especially with a black background.
