Charlie works as a personal trainer at the health club where I enjoy my thrice-weekly swim. His shifts are usually late evenings, so it was a while before I made his acquaintance.
He was happy to agree to some portrait photos. But he was going off to Camp America to work for while and I did not catch up with him beforehand. Then I needed to remember to take my camera for a swim.
So at last this weekend we had a small photo-shoot, with photos taken in the foyer of reception and also outside using the hedge/trees of the car park as backdrop.
I gave him my card and he was in touch quickly and has received this photo and I will be sending him a few more.
Charlie loves playing rugby and has played at school, college and county level.
He is studying at Winchester University for a degree in 'strength & conditioning' and I wish him all the best for his ambition to pursue a career in a sports science related field.
So awesome Hazel!! Seriously.
How do you approach them? Telling them about your project? I'm interested, seriously :) I want to be able to do this kind of things but not sure how to get to that point. Thanks!!
Hey, thank you! Sometimes I happen to get into conversation first, just naturally, and yes I do speak about my project (If you lived near me, you could come out with me! ) I have the camera set up first and I tend to take an unhurried approach.
Phil, thanks as ever. I was glad we could arrange this as it resulted in several really good photos (my modesty is showing!) more than is usual for my portraits!
Good to swim 3 times per week, Hazel. Not much good for candid shots or portraits... cameras in pools are usually frowned upon but it is more important to focus on the swim!
