In this season, the broad dark green leaves of eleagnus are interspersed with small clusters of the tiniest fragrant little flowers.
We first made the acquaintance of eleagnus as a hedge bordering a French car park where we left the car to visit Maison Prévert.
Home again, we bought one for ourselves which, in contrast to the small size of the flowers, now grows 6 to 8 feet high near the stream in our garden.
nb. Ray kindly brought a few eleagnus twigs and put in a vase for me to shoot this as my immobility means that I cannot get down to the part of the garden where it is growing.
On that note it seems appropriate to say here that I now have a provisional date early October for a hip replacement op. I can only just walk with a frame so it has become a necessity and I would not want to just disappear from 365 for a while without signalling my absence in some way. Onwards and upwards - or something similar!!
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
A very fleshy flower, it looks like you could almost eat it.
So glad about your hip op…I go fir an X-ray of hip tomorrow but I’m not that bad jut can’t walk like I used to but ok round the house. I think I will be waiting a long time….you will be a new woman Hazel.
Interesting looking flowers. Good news about the date for your surgery. My SIL had a hip replacement last year and she is so much better and more mobile now.
@quietpurplehaze Oh dear I didn’t know they graded them Hazel. I had to walk a long way to get to the X-ray department & my hip was really hurting by the time I got there but I expect mine is only grade one….I’m still hoping to go on the long list!
Well I didn't know there are grades until the surgeon said mine is now Grade 4. We are doing what I never thought I would do and that is bypassing the NHS - the thought of another 18 months or whatever of my situation is beyond a joke. I've tried everything possible to beat this arthritis but admit defeat.

Thank you for good wishes.
Kerry, thank you - I hope so!
Thank you - good to hear of others' successes!
Pat, thank you. My hip has deteriorated in 2 years from moderately severe to Grade 4 (the most severe) - not so much fun now! Good luck!
Wendy, thank you. I think of you too.
Dianne, thanks. I'll be content with walking!!
Bep, many thanks for good wishes!
