We made an afternoon trip to HInton Ampner yesterday. It was cold and the morning sun deserted us.
I always go into the walled garden and see the scarecrow and his companions. A sorry sight indeed:
the scarecrow had forgotten to trim his beard OR put on his red lipstick and his clothes and the dog's clothes were going green in the damp weather.
No flowers or even vegetation around their seat.
The shop was closed for refurbishment; the only plants flowering were a patch of daffodils and two fragrant Daphne bushes.
There was no heating in the café: we ate a sausage roll each and had a drink and made for home.....oh, we did buy 3 secondhand books, and I brought a few pics home - watch this space.
The scarecrow and his buddies seem an apt image for the times. I think most of us are feeling a bit lost and worn down these days. Hopefully spring and a let up in the covid rates will have us all feeling refurbished and more enthusiastic about things. ( I like your use of a torn edge effect here.)
Oh dear poor scarecrow….everything sounds like January woes, hope in the next couple of month spring work will be done! Nothing worse than eating in a cold cafe….that will definitely put visitors off!
I will next time, now you have mentioned it!
