(nearly) too late

I saw the reminder for the red-head challenge today. And then I saw these lily beetles in the garden. (I know what they are now because a fellow 365er posted some a while ago.)

So I took a few shots and then it was definitely too late for the lily beetles. As justification, Ray did show me where they had already eaten most of the lily buds.

I can only think we are meant to mistake their colour for flowers as it's no camouflage at all.
Great capture and two at once. Shame about the flowers .

Fabulous close up. Shame about the flowers. It looks as though you will have more lily beetles before too long too.

Nice cheery colour but horrible little beetles. I'm not sure if there is much you can use to get rid of them either. I used to hand pick mine off but, after a few years, it just got to be too much to keep in control and I ended up having to pull out the clump of lilies and replace them with something else.

We call them Lely haantjes = +/- Lily cocks . They destroy you lily flowers.

@pyrrhula

I know they are destructive - but also quite pretty?!
