Drake's drum by quietpurplehaze

Drake's drum

A terrible shot because of the reflections of the glass case but I just want to record that this drum on display in Bucklands Abbey, former home of Sir Francis Drake, is supposed to beat of its own accord in times of national crisis.................

I heard not a sound.
Ha - that's lucky then! A neat drum, but glass is such a pain to photograph through isn't it?

How interesting, I wonder who has heard it and when it last beat :)

Maybe it has been stunned into silence.

@merrelyn You may have hit the answer. Or it may only react to threats from outside, not when the citizens themselves are the crisis?

Well that's comforting Hazel, we must count our blessings, every one when you listen to the horrendous times one hundred years ago today!

Lovely capture of a priceless piece of our maritime history Hazel, maybe a polarizing filter would have helped, if all else break the glass take the shot and run like hell:)
