Titchfield Abbey

We visited the ruins of Titchfield Abbey, which is not far from us at all, but it's taken 365 to prompt me to go and see it.

This Premonstratensian** abbey was built in the 13th century and became Palace House in the 16th century when it was given by Henry VIII to one of his 'cronies' who helped him in the dissolution of the monasteries. I imagine that those impressive chimneys were added during the conversion to the domestic residence.

** haven't got round to checking this word so cannot tell exactly what it means.....
