the mistletoe tree
No such thing of course and I guess mistletoe is the cuckoo of the plant world.
As a child, it fascinated me and I tried rubbing a sticky mistletoe berry into a crevice in an apple tree but no success.

Lovely image and story Hazel, more try to get rid of Mistletoe then grow it, it should have worked on an Apple tree, the best time to try is February and March on Apple Hawthorn, Poplar, Lime and conifers trees:)

They have made quite a colony on this tree. We get lots of mistletoe here. It doesn't seem to damage the host tree though.
