In 1856, on this site at Royal Victoria Country Park, a purpose-built Military Hospital was constructed.

The chapel and tower, and the military cemetery are now all that remain.

A heritage museum and a café are housed in the former chapel but the stained glass windows and ornate ceiling have been preserved.
