Thanks for the comments everyone. @trude I'm not sure why they are called zebra finches although the cock bird does have some stripes on his neck. This pic is the hen bird. They are also commonly known as red beaks. @lynnb They are a common little hardy bird so yes there is a strong chance that you would have seen them at a pet shop.
